 The soil of the temperate grasslands is deep and dark.

Annual Precipitation: 81 cm. (32 in.).

Many animals roam the grasslands such as the elephant, lions, zebras, giraffe, black rhinoceros, mice, prairie dogs, and the little insect called the aphid.

Although shrubs and trees occur very rarely in this biome, there are several types of grasses that grow in the grassland biome, such as buffalo grass, ryegrass, foxtail, wild oats, and purple needlegrass
